Abir Roy is the Co-Founder and Practice Head of Competition Law and Technology at Sarvada Legal, and one of India's foremost competition law advocates. His practice spans antitrust litigation, competition policy, merger control, and regulatory advisory, and he has played an active role in shaping competition jurisprudence in India's digital and technology markets.
As a litigator, Abir has an extensive and well-regarded contentious practice. He leads Sarvada Legal's competition law team in Delhi, with a strong contentious practice, frequently advising on disputes and investigations relating to anti-competitive practices. He regularly appears before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and the Competition Commission of India (CCI). His litigation practice covers the full range of competition disputes — from cartel enforcement and abuse of dominance proceedings to complex merger control matters and writ petitions before constitutional courts. He has been involved in several landmark competition law matters, including high-profile proceedings in digital markets involving some of the world's largest technology companies.
On the advisory and policy side, Abir has rich experience in handling complex issues and regularly advises and provides training to clients on their business operations from a competition law perspective. His competition law experience spans a broad range of sectors including e-commerce, digital markets, radio taxis, oil and gas, aviation, automobiles, stock exchanges, entertainment, government procurement, liquor, fast-moving consumer goods, and chemicals, among others.
Abir is among the most published and internationally recognised practitioners in Indian competition law. He has authored three authoritative works in the field — Competition Law in India: A Practical Guide (Second Edition, Wolters Kluwer, 2024), Competition Law in India (Second Edition with 2023 amendments, Eastern Law House), and the original Competition Law in India: A Practical Guide (Wolters Kluwer, 2016) — which are widely regarded as essential practitioner and academic references. He contributes periodically on developments in Indian competition law and writes regularly in leading financial publications including the Financial Express and Business Today. He has also been featured on international platforms discussing the practical aspects of competition law enforcement in India, including in discussion with the American Bar Association on approaching the CCI. In addition, he is a visiting lecturer on competition law at Symbiosis Law University, Noida, and at LawSikho, a leading online legal education portal.
His standing in the field is consistently recognised by the world's foremost legal directories.
